Mrs. Peters has uploaded three Beatles songs to her youtube account: JABPeters. Fifth graders are learning these songs for their Spring Sing. They might have fun singing along with Mrs. Peters and her piano accompaniment. The three songs are: Let It Be, Yesterday and When I'm 64. Have fun!
Mrs. Peters learned how to use a webcam and a microphone to creat videos of music that students are learning to play. Check out her MOODLE Orchestra sites or her youtube account at JABPeters.
Lincoln students have been busy preparing for the annual Solo and Ensemble Night to be held tonight, Feb. 22, at 6:30 in the Upper Gym. There will be several solos, duets and quartets, as well as a performance by the Jazz band. Come out and hear our talented students.
Karate Belts for Orchestra
At Edison School, all students are familiar with karate belts for music learned in Recorder Karate. Now Beginning Orchestra students can earn different colored belts (brightly colored strings tied to the scrolls of their instruments) as they learn the key pieces they will be performing at their end-of year concert. So far, some students have learned all the variations on Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and the others are motivated to catch up. Orchestra students are excited to play by themselves in front of other students in order to earn their belts and are practicing more at home.
Third Grade
Edison third graders are working on recorder karate in music classes
Fourth Grade
Edison fourth graders are working on Rap of the Presidents and Rap of the States in music classes.
Fifth Grade
Edison fifth graders are learning the ukulele in music classes.
Students prepare for FAB Variety Show
Many orchestra students are performing in the FAB Variety Show to be held on February 10. Vijay Shah (Lincoln-Grade 7) composed an original work, Revenge 3, which he will perform with his brother, Vikram. Seventh graders Nicole Cho, Lesley Ongayaco, Tiffany Fujiwara and Deborah Kim, are performing the Vivaldi Concerto for four violins with Mrs. Peters, their orchestra teacher accompanying them on piano. Jeremy Litberg (Edison-Grade 5) will perform Devil’s Dream, a fiddle tune arranged by Mrs. Peters
The Edison Beginning Orchestra has begun their rehearsals. We meet every Wednesday at 12:00 during 4th grade recess. Students still attend their weekly lessons, as well as the beginning orchestra rehearsal. Orchestra students are also earning "karate belts" for pieces they have learned and polished.
The Lincoln Orchestra recently performed at the Orchestra Odyssey, held at Niles West High School, on January 12. Lincoln students worked with orchestra students from Lincoln Hall in the morning on two pieces: Shufflin the Strings and Colors of the Wind. Seventh grader, Nicole Cho, played the solo part in Shufflin the Strings. Eighth graders then worked with students from Niles West High School on Follow the Drinking Gourd. Even with the snow, we came back and played a beautiful concert that evening with students from: Culver, Parkview, Fair View and Niles West High School. Stephen Hobson was our guest clinician.
