We have a lot going on this week!  Today we had Healthworld visit us to talk to the kids about their changing bodies.  It was a great presentation.  We also had a fifth grade rehearsal for Spring Sing.  The kids sound terrific!  Wednesday is an early release day, with the Spring Sing concert at 6.  Be sure to have it on your calendar!  Thursday we will have a visit from Mr. Bleuher who will talk to us a bit more about Lincoln Junior High.  We will also be visiting Mr. O'Malley's hands-on museum.  Finally, Friday is our picnic!  Be sure to send your child with a sack lunch and sunscreen, as we will be spending the afternoon outside.  Phew!  What a week!

Yesterday the last Scholastic order forms were passed out for the year.  This is a great opportunity to purchase books for summer reading!  Please be sure to have the forms back to me, or order online, by Thursday afternoon.  Thank you!
Today the fifth graders enjoyed a teaser performance of the Lincoln Junior High's Spring Musical. The students who performed did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the educational prgram "School House Rock". They displayed such enthusiasm that many of the students voiced their excitement about the possiblity of being a part of the musicals next year. Please support on the middle schoolers by attending one of their performances this week. They will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Skokie Theatre Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.

As a culminating activity to our studies of the American Revolution, the student enjoyed watching a documentary produced by the History Channel. The students were absolutely fascinated by watching all of what we read and discussed come to life. While we only watched the sections that pertained directly to our social studies curriculum, I highly recommend watching the entire documentary if you get a chance at home.

What a busy day!  It started out with a visitor from my dear friend, Ms. Bones.  She is a real skeleton that comes to visit while we are talking about human body systems.  The children are fascinated by her and we learn so much from looking at how are bodies are put together!

We then had a "teaser performance" of "School House Rock".  Students from Lincoln Junior High gave us a quick peek at their wonderful spring musical.  They will be performing it this Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.  If you are interested in going, please check out Ms. Abramite's webpage for details.

Finally, we took our last MAP test of the school year.  It was our math test, and we were all very excited to see our scores grow from the fall.

Today we had our Map reading test in the computer lab. We had an hour to finish a 40-50 questions. It was tiring, but fun. Everyone in our class got good and high numbers. Our score were between 200-250 points.

Class Meeting

Class Meeting

Today in class meeting we talk about how angry we can be without noticing it. We also talked about how we can be if we are in bad mood or that person is being mean to you don’t hit or touch that person. We went into groups of three and wrote down how people push your buttons and you can’t stand it anymore. Everyone has times like that. Mostly the siblings push your buttons because they live with you and they know what annoys you. Some people’s buttons are easy to push and some people’s buttons take a while to push.

We have a busy week next week!  On Monday, we'll be taking our final Reading MAP test of the year.  Please be sure your child has had a good night's sleep and eaten a healthy breakfast.  On Tuesday evening, Lincoln Junior High will be hosting Fifth-Grade Orientation at 6:30 p.m.  I highly recommend going to this with your child, as you will be able to meet some teachers and get any questions answered.  On Thursday, the students will be tested in their fluency, or speed in which they are able to read 5th grade text.  We have been practicing this all year, increasing the intensity within the past couple of weeks, so the kids are excited to show their progress.
