About Mrs. M:

*In addition to being your 5th grade teacher, I am a mother of twin 6-year-old girls, Alexandra and Charlotte.  We love our 3 dogs, Payton, Josephine, and Winnie, and our cat, Tiffany.  Sometimes we feel like we live in a zoo!  This summer we had fun swimming at the beach and pool and smelling the beautiful flowers at the Botanic Gardens!  I hope you've had a fantastic, relaxing summer, too!

*I can't wait to begin the 2013-2014 school year!  It's always exciting to begin school each fall and meet the wonderful students I will learn with each year.  Our common goal is to work together, work hard, and have fun!

*On this web page, you will find our homework assignments, monthly newsletters, and helpful links.

*Please feel free to contact me at any time during the year with any questions or comments.  I look foward to getting to know you and your child this year!

Speech and Language at Edison

Welcome to my webpage! I finished my first year at Edison as a Speech-Language Pathologist and am so happy to be a part of the Edison Family. I look forward to starting year number two in the fall. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and my graduate degree at Northern Illinois University, receiving a Master's Degree in Communicative Disorders. I am a big sports fan, and root for the Cubbies, Bulls, and Hawks.

Only two more days!  We are finishing up our study of the body systems, which has been so intriguing.  Today we participated in our last experiment.   The digestive system begins in our mouth, with our teeth and saliva, as we have learned.  Today we discovered that our body turns starch into sugar for us to use.  During the experiment, we chewed unsalted soda crackers and let them sit in our mouths for a while as we waited to see if the flavor changed.  Some of us tasted a definite difference from the first chew!

Congratulations to Sica and Nickcole for being our star students!  We set goals in the beginning of the year, and these two young ladies worked hard to attain them, both at home and at school.  As I told the class though, SO MANY students in our class did an outstanding job this year academically.  When I look at the data, as well as think about the year, I am so proud of the kids and of the growth they have made.  This is an outstanding group of students.

On Monday, we will be cleaning and taking home most of our supplies, with the exception of our art supplies.  Please send an extra bag with your child so that he/she can bring home these items.  Thanks!

Tomorrow is Field Day! Be sure to either put sun screen on your child, or send it to school.  Also, the kids should have a water bottle to keep hydrated.  It will be a blast!  Our class is showing class pride by wearing red!

Summer Math Review Packets

Summer math review packets will be distributed to the entering third, fourth and fifth graders by June 4.  A copy of each packet also will be available on this site.

Students who complete the packet will earn a reward when they return to school in August!

 Happy mathing!

We have a lot going on this week!  Today we had Healthworld visit us to talk to the kids about their changing bodies.  It was a great presentation.  We also had a fifth grade rehearsal for Spring Sing.  The kids sound terrific!  Wednesday is an early release day, with the Spring Sing concert at 6.  Be sure to have it on your calendar!  Thursday we will have a visit from Mr. Bleuher who will talk to us a bit more about Lincoln Junior High.  We will also be visiting Mr. O'Malley's hands-on museum.  Finally, Friday is our picnic!  Be sure to send your child with a sack lunch and sunscreen, as we will be spending the afternoon outside.  Phew!  What a week!
