Welcome to Art at Lincoln Jr. High!!!!!
Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Lincoln Jr. High!! I hope you had a great summer and are ready to start the year off "The Spartan Way". You need to commit to being respectful, responsible and safe during this entire school year in order to be successful.
I am looking forward to being at Lincoln full time this year and there are a lot of activities that I will be sponsoring this year. Be sure to come to our call out for after school clubs at the start of the school year. I will be sponsoring Art Club and Yearbook again this year.
Check out my blogs to find information about advisory as well as your grade level art classes.
To end our unit on the Middle Ages, students created their own personal Coat of Arms. Students used a common medieval division, traditional heraldry, and were able to create unique and colorful charges that represented their personality, hobbies and/or culture. When they finished, students went on a walking tour and shared their shields with their peers. The completed shields will be on display at LJHS near the 6th grade social studies classrooms (211 & 212) and in the classrooms next week. Come check them out!
...and they are fantastic! It's amazing to see the hard work of these 6th graders! In my last blog post, students were working on Medieval Google Docs presentations based on non-fiction research. Here are some samples in PDF of some student's work.
6th Graders researched, developed and will share a GoogleDocs Presentation beginning tomorrow in social studies classes! Check out these students hard at work putting on the final touches!
Students were responsible for using non-ficton reference sources (thanks to our LMC & Skokie Public Library) to find information. Proper citation of print, web and image sources is also required.
These digital natives loved engaging with our new social studies department ChromeBooks!
Moving right along, 6th grade math is now learning about functions. Students have been completing function tables and discovering the function rule.
Continue to practice with funtions by playing this game. Stop the clones by discovering the funtion rule!
In social studies, we are learning all about the middle ages and Medieval Times! Students picked a topic, such as knights, castles, peasants and serfs, or children of the Middle Ages, and created a GoogleDoc presentations using the Chromebooks. Students then got to share their presentation with their class and teach them what they learned!
As we continue learning about the Middle Ages, students will now create their own personal Coat of Arms. Students will have to use a common medieval division and traditional heraldry, but will be able to create unique and colorful charges that represented their personality, hobbies and/or culture. The completed shields will be on display at LJHS near the 6th grade social studies classrooms (211 & 212) next week.
