It was so exciting to have young adult author Jay Asher speak to the 7th graders yesterday!
Not only was it great to see the students so excited about reading, but it was also wonderful to hear his message of perseverance and following your dreams.
Hope we can have him back in the future!
I really enjoyed seeing my students' guitar and singing performances in Mr. Shroer's class today!
It was great to see my language arts students in a different light. I am very proud of them all.
Please encourage your child to come join us when Chicago’s own bestselling children’s author, Blue Balliett, visits the Skokie Public Library to celebrate the publication of her latest book, Hold Fast. Set in Chicago, it is the story of a girl who falls into Chicago's system of shelters for the homeless when her father disappears. She decides it's up to her to hold her family together and solve the mystery of her father's disappearance.
The author of such favorites as Chasing Vermeer and The Wright 3, Blue will be appearing at the Library on Thursday, March 7th at 7:00 p.m. Copies of Blue’s novels will be available for sale starting at 6:30 p.m. and autographing will be available at the conclusion of the author’s presentation. A portion of the proceeds from these book sales will go to Chicago Hopes, a volunteer-based, after-school homework help program for students living in Chicago homeless shelters. This event is made possible through a partnership with The Book Stall at Chestnut Court in Winnetka.
The second annual District 69 Spelling Bee will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Skokie Public Library. Please come out to support our spellers!
I am so excited to see all of the students on Wednesday, and I am looking forward to another great school year!
This year, I will have the pleasure of teaching one language arts class with Mrs. Jonas and one language arts class with Mrs. Prena. Hope everyone had a great summer!
It brightened my day to read about the random acts of kindness that 7th grade students completed as part of a cross-curricular unit. What a great way to end a successful school year!
I want to say a big thank you to the librarians from Skokie Public Library for presenting their enthusiastic and engaging book talks. I really enjoying having you speak to the students today, and I know they are excited to check out some of the great books you discussed.
Tomorrow and Monday will be spring MAP testing for the 7th graders. Students will take both a math and reading test so it is important that they get a lot of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each morning. After the testing is completed, students will be analyzing and discussing their scores in their language arts and math classes. An emphasis will be placed on growth during the school year and strategies they can use for further improvement.
