Math:  In math, students are finishing chapter 10 on decimals and fractions.  My math class just began chapter 7 on Patterns and Sequences.   

Reading:  Next week will be the first week of Unit 6 in Treasures.  The theme for the unit is about solving problems.  The skills being taught are problem and solution, cause and effect, fact and opinion, and drawing conclusions.    

**Students are encouraged to pre-read or reread any stories we have read in class to help with their fluency and comprehension!

Writing:  Hopefully your child has filled you in on College Week!  The kids and teachers have had so much fun learning about different colleges.  Our college of the week was University of Illinois.  Ask your child to repeat the chant!  The students have researched different colleges by studying their brochures and then chose a college they would like to attend. The final paper is a four to five paragraph essay that explains why they want to attend that particular college.  The students are doing a great job and I am so impressed with their work so far!


       Social Studies: Students are studying the five U.S regions.  For the final project, each child was put in a group to study a particular region.  They had to research the people that live there, the landmarks, landforms, resources, culture, etc. Each group is putting together a different project to present to the class such as a reader’s theater script, a PowerPoint presentation, or book.
