Room 10 has been learning how to Read to Self for the Daily 5.
We practiced the three ways to read a book:
The students are building their stamina and have read successfully for 5 minutes with everyone on task. Nice job Room 10!
Kindergarten had their Kindergarten Sing on Tuesday. The children did a great job and they looked wonderful. Take a look for yourself...
Rooms 10 and 11 have finished their community mural. The studnets learned about community workers and places in our communities. We even talked about the kinds of things community workers might say so that we could make speech bubbles to help decorate the mural. The students did a wonderful job with this mural and we can not wait for you to see it at Open House!

This week Room 10 started making the Community Mural. We painted houses, added sidewalks and made Madison School. Next week, we will work with Room 11 to create different places in the Skokie/Morton Grove community. We are reading and writing about communities in the classroom. Talk to your children about the places and people you see while you are around town!
Room 10 just finished our literacy unit that was themed around animals. To wrap up the unit we made a habitat for our fish. When we made our fish we talked about the cool colors on the color wheel. Here is a picture of the beginning of our habitat mural:
This month, we are talking about neighborhoods. We will work with Room 11 to create a mural of Skokie!
Today, Madison School celebrated the 100th day of school! In Room 10, we wrote words with 100 letters, we wrote about what we would like 100 of, we built with 100 objects, we made a snack with 10 pieces of 10 different things, we put together a 100 piece puzzle, and we filled in a 100's chart. We did all of this while wearing our home made 100th day gear!
Last month, Room 10 was talking about food (where it comes from, what we have had, and how to follow recipes). We have also been talking about using sequence words to retell a story in order (first, next, then, and last). So, we followed two recipies to make food and then we retold the story of what we did, in the order that we did it. Here are some pictures of our class making strawberry salad and applesauce.
