Mid Term!

As we start the month of May, let me remind you that by watching your student's HomeLogic account you can keep up with grades.  D/F notices were sent home with students this week.  ENRICHMENT activities were assigned this week and projects will begin next week.

Twizzler DNA

Today we created models of animal DNA.... using twizzlers and spice drops!  Students were able to manipulate base pairs and set up the base triplets.  Next step, how does this pattern of 4 chemicals create so many individuals (makes me realize how much we are really alike!)

Fourth Quarter

WOW!  I can't believe our last quarter of the year.  Environmental projects were very well done; I was impressed at the quality and the evidence of learning our students showed.  I hope your student has shared our 4th quarter letter... in the letter Mr Steve Olson, a student teacher is introduced.  I'm looking forward to our study of Genetics as we enter this final stretch.

Final Projects looking Great!

Students have been diligently working on their final environmental projects.  Pictures books are teaching a lesson and making me smile.  The eco-friendly homes are nice enough to  move into! And, the enrichment projects should inspire all to be careful with how we are using our natural resources.

Final Environmental Project

7th grade science will spend these last two weeks before spring break producing a project about the environmental issues we have been learning.  There are three levels of projects happening.... Enrichment: Create a static display about how humans meet their needs.  Regular: Create a children's picture book teaching about how our needs impact the planet.  Alternate: Design an eco-friendly house.  All projects are due Friday, March 22nd.

Pond Scum and Parking Lot Slurpies

Today we tested water from a variety of sources, including parking lot snow melt and drinking water, for the presence of a variety of chemicals and metals.  Tomorrow, we will use our data to determine which water would be safe to drink!

Welcome Back! Start of 3rd quarter

Welcome back!  I  hope everyone had a super winter break.  Mine was relaxing and I'm excited to start our next unit.  Our next unit is Environmental Sciences... the first lessons being 6 cycles of nature.  Please note as well, the 2nd quarter ends next week already; please take a moment to check into homelogic and view your students progress.

7th Grade ROCKS!

We spent today in science identifying igneous rocks.  Students are now aware of the various rocks sold as 'granite' and will be watching when new countertops are put in our homes!  Next step, weathering and erosion!

Big Thank You!

Dr Ken Ferrigno, grandfather to one of our 7th grade students, spent the morning sharing his geologic expertise and pieces from his fossil collection.  Students were able to handle samples that are over 300 MILLION years old!  Thank you Dr Ferrigno!

Scientific Dating

Students are learning how scientists can determine how old things are even when we don't have written records.  Today we used SUPERPOSITION to find out which rock layers were the oldest in our graphics.
