Throughout the year, the 2nd graders in Room 5 and the Kindergartners in Room 11 have worked together to create a safe, responsible, respectful environment for playing games in the classroom and outside at recess. In the beginning of the year, the 2nd graders, acted as mentors in teaching their kindergarten friends how to appropriately play the SOAR games outside at recess. Then as winter struck, we brought the games into the classroom. We practiced following rules, putting games away, how to have good sportsmanship, etc. The kids have not only been SOAR buddies, but have been buddies throughout the day. When we see our friends in the hallway, there is always the quiet wave, which gives those kindergarten friends a boost of confidence knowing their 2nd grade friend is just around the corner and there to help if needed.
